Puppies are the Perfect Panacea

Nick knows he should brace himself whenever I’m in a tough place emotionally.

It always means more animals.

This past week I pushed my IT band too far and now am paying for it with restricted activity and an aching hip.

Plus, the latest news on my latest manuscript was not good. My agent is once again asking for massive changes and my heart just isn’t in it. So physically and mentally, I’m feeling a little defeated.

Which is always a great time for puppies.

In case you thought my puppy room was still occupied, let me share these happy endings with you:

Since the puppy room is empty and my heart needs a distraction (or six), on Sunday I’ll meet a transport from my favorite shelter in WV (Huntington-Cabell-Wayne and amazing regional shelter showing that with great leadership, veterinary access, and an engaged community rural shelters can succeed). I’ll be picking up a mama dog and five 4-week old puppies.

Long-time readers of this blog may note the resemblance to Edith Wharton, a mama dog we fostered (with 12 puppies!). This dog looks just as sweet. Stay tuned for news and names. You get a sneak preview before next week’s blog on the Another Good Dog Facebook group.

Meanwhile, the Pastry Kitties are doing great. They are a sweet, friendly bunch who love human attention (nice change from the last cats I fostered) and get cuter by the day. Addie gave them their names and continues to be my best assistant, but they are always looking for attention if anyone wants a little kitten therapy!

From top clockwise: Baklava (F), Cannoli (F), Croissant (M), Donut (M), Macaroon (M), Meringue (M), and Strudel (F)

Thanks to a donated secure pop-up playpen, they are able to get out and run every day. Donut especially enjoys ‘hanging from the rafters’. The kitties will be with me until they reach two pounds (most are over halfway there) and then they can be spayed/neutered and ready for their forever home or transfer to rescues.

I’m still amazed that my two foster dogs, Marley and Argus, are still here. C’mon, people, these are some really great dogs. You’d pay serious money to have a trainer handle housebreaking, crate-training, and leash-manners, and you’d pay a vet even more money to fully vet your dog. These two have all that built in, AND they are sweethearts who love people, other dogs, and Argus is learning to love cats (and not be afraid of them). Marley used to live with cats, but I’m gonna guess that for her to live with a cat, that cat will need to dog-aggressive.

If you want to know more about either of these stellar pups, contact me or apply to adopt Marley here or apply to adopt Argus here.

Until Each One Has a Home,

Cara

  1. It’s just inconceivable Argus and Marley have not been adopted yet. Hopefully that means the absolute perfect owners will soon arrive. Best of luck with the newest kitten and the rest of the gang. And hopefully they’re just what the doctor ordered to comfort your heart and writing muse.
