And the Fun Goes On and On

So here’s the fun part…..

All of the puppies went home to wonderful adopters. And what lucky adopters they are, as these are some wonderful puppies!

Meanwhile, Argus left on a trial adoption.

Everybody keep your paws crossed! I don’t want to jinx anything and post a picture of him with his new family yet, but so far, so good!

And, of course, we have a new foster!

Gracie Lou is a little bulldog mix who has been in foster care in Maryland all summer, getting healthy and ready to be adopted. Prior to that, she was living in an outdoor shelter in West Virginia, and prior to that she spent her life on a chain, having babies (sound like someone else we know?).

Gracie Lou just arrived yesterday, so I’ll tell you more about her next week, after I’ve gotten to know her better. So far, she has been a sweet and quiet guest. I initially put her in a crate in the kitchen of the cottage, thinking she might enjoy the quiet while she settled in. But she was a little anxious in there by herself, so I moved her to a crate in my office with Cherry and she relaxed and had a good first night. This morning, she’s casing the corners of the cottage for treats as I write this, while Cherry is enjoying the morning in the foster dog yard.

Meanwhile, Cherry gets sweeter every day. She is such great, undemanding company. She is happiest when we take walks around the pasture or up the road. But she’s also very content to lounge on the futon and watch me type. She is affectionate and friendly, with so much love to give.

Until she was surrendered to the shelter with her puppies, Cherry lived a life of neglect, tied in a yard, having litter after litter. So, maybe she appreciates her soft bed (thanks Melisa and Humane Society of Shenandoah County for donating it!) and the futon and getting regular meals, more than most dogs. She’s a great dog and deserves a family of her own.

Cherry will be spayed this Tuesday and then available for adoption at Operation Paws for Homes.

I’m hoping that Cherry and Gracie Lou will become good friends. I’ve already begun referring to them as ‘the Ladies’, as they are both of-a-certain-age and probably each given birth to nearly 100 puppies. It’s time these ladies were spoiled. I’ll be pampering them with cozy beds, healthy meals (plus vitamins and salmon oil), lots of treats, long wanders along the trail, and lazy afternoons in the sunshine.

And now, it’s back to the cats! Kittens are incoming next week!
