Roster Report from the Foster Cottage

Things are a bit busy here in the foster cottage, so here’s the rundown:

Lima Bean had her amputation surgery on Wednesday and is doing really well. She’s back to wearing toddler shirts to protect the huge incision and keep her from messing with it. When I picked her up, they recommended she wear a cone, but this poor girl is miserable, so we’re going with shirts instead. So far, so good.

She will go back in two weeks to have staples removed and have her spay surgery. And then two weeks after that, we will do her heartworm treatment. I’m going out to the thrift stores today to buy her a new wardrobe (her old shirts are too tight – she’s gained weight, and I don’t want them to press on her incision).

The Beanie Babies are still looking for adopters! We took Green Bean and Pinto Bean to an adoption event at our new bookstore in Woodstock and they had a blast. There was a great turn out, but so far, no adoption applications. Sigh.

Here is there information:

Green Bean is eleven weeks old and weighs 15 pounds. He is a joyful, outgoing puppy who loves people. Usually the life of the party, he also loves to snuggle. His favorite pastime is tackling his brother! He’s learning to sit for treats and doing really well using puppy pads indoors.

Pinto Bean is eleven weeks old and weighs almost 16 pounds. He is a fun boy, but more laid back and cautious than his brother. He is smart and treat-motivated and already knows to sit for treats and attention. He confidently takes on our puppy agility teeter. He’s also doing well using puppy pads indoors.

Dani is still waiting for her heartworm treatment. We learned the hard way that she can not only climb over fences, but climb up on crates and shelves to access treats I thought were safely out of reach. This led to the discovery that she has a hearty constitution. After eating an entire bag of dental treats and two other bags of treats, she was fine. No gastro consequences at all. I suppose that will serve her well.

She continues to be a joy to foster. She’s friendly with everyone and is perfect on a leash. She’s never had a potty accident and is quiet in her crate. She is scheduled for heartworm treatment on July 21, but I’m badgering the vet to try to move it up. She’s more than ready. She also has a soft cough, indicative of heartworm, that worries me.

Wishbone went home! He hit the jackpot with these adopters and I couldn’t be happier for him!

This has been an expensive bunch of fosters to save, and I’m grateful to X-Port Paws for taking them on, despite the cost. If you can donate, I’d be beyond grateful. Heartworm treatments coming up for Lima Bean and Dani are not cheap.

Diamond is still here, but….she is scheduled to rejoin her family on July 26. She has been such an entertaining foster dog and still spends parts of every day trying to bring her bucket inside.

So, it’s busy here in the foster cottage – just the way I like it. But I really can’t wait for these pups to find their forever families. The sooner that happens, the sooner we can save more.

Until Each One Has a Home,

Cara

  1. Gosh, it’s hard to fathom they all don’t have new fur-ever homes. Keeping my paws crossed the right batch of adopters is close by for those adorable pups. Sending ‘pawsitive’ thoughts for a speedy and easy recovery for Lima Bean. Like you, I’m thrilled Wishbone has been adopted! Yay. Diamond is just too cute not to be adopted. STAT! 🙂

    1. Thanks! It seems like finding adopters is tough all over right now. I always believe that when it takes longer, it’s just that the right family isn’t quite ready for them and we just have to be patient!
