A Doghouse-Full of Foster Dogs

The foster cottage is filling back up!

After a year with us, Diamond was able to go back home this past weekend! You can read about how she came to be with us here. From the start, we were never sure this day would come. But it finally did, and I’m thrilled for her. She has a fenced backyard of her own and is back with her mom for good.

Fostering Diamond was a big risk for Nick and me. It definitely required a different kind of commitment to an animal that isn’t ours. It wasn’t like any of foster experience we’ve had. In those cases, we were fostering for a resuce and the responsibility and the life of the animal wasn’t ultimately on us. But it also committed us to a complete stranger, trusting that she would do her part to bring Diamond home. And she did. Thus proving my absolute belief that ‘most people are good.’

Dani found the most wonderful adopters! They have patiently waited through her heartworm treatment and took her home this past Saturday. I couldn’t be happier for her.

We connected with Dani’s adopters via my new TikTok habit. I’m having a lot of fun sharing my fostering experiences and amazing dogs. If you’re on TikTok, look me up! You’ll see much more of this foster cottage in action.

Pinto Bean also found a home this past weekend. He was adopted locally, so it will be fun to see this boy grow up!

Which leaves Green Bean still in need of an adopter. This puppy is a total love. Now that he’s fully vaccinated, I’ve been taking him on all kinds of adventures around town. He’s also enjoying playtime with his mama, Lima Bean.

If you know of anyone looking for a puppy, please share Green Bean’s information. He is 13 weeks old, microchipped, vaccinated, and will likely grow to be about 50 -60 pounds. He is friendly and outgoing, already crate trained, and doing well with house-training.

Lima Bean was spayed this past week, so she is two-thirds of the way through her challenges. Next up: Heartworm treatment. We’re going to let her recover and regain her strength. Two surgeries in two weeks is a lot for any dog, but for one compromised by heartworm it’s even tougher. We’re looking at doing her treatment at the end of August. After that, this special dog will be ready for a home of her own.

Lima Bean is about 1-2 years old. She is playful, smart, and THE best snuggler. Every single person (and I’m not exaggerating) who has met her has fallen in love instantly. She’s that kind of dog. Not to mention beautiful. Three-legs don’t slow her down at all. If you or anyone you know is interested in adopting her, please reach out.

And now….just a teaser for the new pack that has already refilled the cottage!

Lucie Lou arrived via Pilots N Paws on Sunday. She is an absolute joy. Friendly, loving, submissive, clever, athletic, pretty much the whole package. Crate-trained, and (so far) house-trained too. She is about 2 years old, spayed, microchipped, vaccinated, and ready for a home of her own. She weighs 42 pounds, loves other dogs, and is cat-friendly (at least with Hazel). Pretty much perfect (imho). If you think this might be your dog, let me know quick. I don’t expect her to be here long. A turn-key dog like this is rare.

Bumble is a six-month-old puppy we saved from the euthanasia list at Memphis Animal Services, just hours before his time was up. He is a sweetheart and only weighs 20 pounds! He is underweight and likely riddled with worms, and has a long, nasty injury down his back that looks like a chemical burn. I’ve assured him that life gets better from here. He’s all puppy so getting a picture isn’t easy! I promise I’ll have better pictures soon – he’s a doll baby. Full grown I’d guess he’ll be a medium size dog (35-45 pounds).

And last, the first truly small dog I’ve fostered in years! Saul (soon to be renamed) is only a year old and weighs 23 pounds. He is a darling who seems to be crate-trained and housebroken. I think it’s impossible to get a picture of this guy without a smile. He’s super sweet, and so far very quiet, but I’m sure his personality will come out as he gets comfortable.

Because there is just too much action going on in this foster cottage, I hope to post again this week on the blog, but you can see things live on Facebook in the Another Good Dog facebook page, and also on TikTok.

Many of this pack will be with me for First Friday in Woodstock this Friday night from 5:30-7. We’ll be set up on Main Street in front of Travelers Treasures (and Muse is doing a wine tasting in front of the bookstore right next to us!). Stop by if you’re in town!

Shew. That’s a lot.
