adopters

May the Force (and Your Shares) Be With These Foster Puppies!

Adopting out puppies used to be easy. Especially when you have puppies as cute, sweet, and calm as the bunch I have.

But times have changed and/or I’m fostering in a different way than I used to foster. It’s much easier to find adopters when you have the power of a large, established local rescue’s marketing prowess behind your efforts.

Since relocating to Virginia, I’ve been more of a freelance foster. I’ve fostered for six different organizations – always trying to offer help where it is most needed. Of late, that has been for X-Port Paws and Team Memphis Rescue & Support. Neither is local to me, but both are saving lives no one else will save.

This means that finding adopters is mostly on me. I couldn’t do it without the several thousand subscribers to this blog, followers on Facebook/Instagram, and of late, the multitudes on TikTok.

I know that many of you already have a dog or three (or eight), so I’m not asking you to adopt one of these amazing animals in my foster cottage.

What I need from you is the power of your reach. If every one of you shared this post or one of the images on it or one of the countless posts already on my social media, with a little personal endorsement (something like: She isn’t crazy, at least not much, and these are wonderful dogs who would make awesome pets), that could go a long way to finding homes for these critters.

Here are a few images you could copy/paste into your own messages or posts:

And for Amelia:

So, here is the basic info on all of my available puppies, plus Amelia (who is nearly perfect). Feel free to cut and paste any of this and/or just copy/repost anything:

These dogs/puppies are fostered near Woodstock, Virginia in the Shenandoah Valley. Out-of-area adoptions are considered.

ADOPTABLE PUPPIES:

May the Fourth Be With You puppies were born on, you guessed it, May 4th, 2026. They are all microchipped, vaccinated (appropriately for age), and ready to go to homes of their own. We expect them to grow to be medium-sized dogs (35-50 pounds). They have delightful temperaments that they got from their parents (who were also fostered and adopted). We can only guess at their breed profile which might include some kind of shepherd/husky mix. Interested adopters are welcome to visit the puppies who are fostered just outside Woodstock, Virginia in Shenandoah County. To apply to adopt, visit Team Memphis Rescue. For questions, email Cara (fosterdogcottage@gmail.com).

Obi

Outgoing, incredibly happy guy whose tail never stops wagging.

Luke

Silly boy who loves people, snuggling, and snoozing.

Han

Smart guy who is always paying attention – quick learner.

Leia

One of the largest pups, loves water, outgoing and goofy.

Padme

A little imp who is always in the middle of everything. Padme has some special needs.

Yoda

Wise sage, largest of the puppies, solidly built, easy-going, loves his naps.

ADOPTABLE DOG:

Amelia Bedelia is about 3 years old and weighs 40 pounds. She is wise and sweet and quiet but ready for adventures. Smart and athletic, she would likely excel in dog sports or as a hiking or running buddy. That said, she is also a happy couch potato. Amelia has a herding dog background (possibly cattle dog or Carolina dog) so she will very definitely try ot round up your cat or the squirrels, cows, deer, or bugs she encounters. Amelia is spayed, microchipped, vaccinated, and solidly house-trained. She sleeps in a crate at night and has excellent house manners, although she is prone to occasionally counter surf or peruse the treasures in the trash can. Amelia has done well visiting festivals, wineries, breweries, and downtown areas, walking nicely on a leash and being friendly with all age people, including children. She has also done well with other dogs and has a full-on play style.

For information or to set up a meet and greet with Amelia, message cara (fosterdogcottage@gmail.com). To apply to adopt, click here.

If you or someone you know is looking to add a furry family member, please share the dogs and puppies in my foster cottage. I need help spreading the word! You can always find information about the dogs on this blog site (under the tab ‘foster dogs currently available for adoption’) and also on the Facebook page, Adoptable Dogs in Shenandoah County.
