Slowly, slowly, the adoptions are happening. Five left for their forever homes this past week!

The remaining four puppies will be joining me for another adoption event this weekend at Travelers Treasures in Woodstock. Joy, the shopkeeper who lives up to her name, is a big supporter of the foster cottage.

With my set up, adoption events are critical. It’s how people discover the work we’re doing here, and a chance for them to meet the puppies live.
It’s a lot of work to make them happen, but it’s necessary work. The sooner they can go home, the better. Not just because I’m tired of cleaning up puppy poop, but because what they need right now developmentally is lots of individual attention, new experiences, new people, and the chance to meet other dogs. There’s only so much one person can do.

I welcome visitors to come and play with the puppies, giving them much-needed attention and experience. If you’re local or localish, please reach out if you’d like a little puppy therapy (they need people therapy).
The puppies still available for adoption:
Han, whose ears are evolving. For the longest time he’s had one stand up ear, but now they are both at attention. He also has one green eye. He is a smart little bugger with a solid sit for treats and a mischievous streak.

Obie is the happiest puppy. He has an extra long tail that never stops wagging and big joyful grin. He’s lanky and goofy and a little bit independent. He can happily entertain himself with a toy and is the first to notice a new toy in the pen.

Leia is confident and fun. She has one blue eye and one eye that is half blue, half green. She’s one of the largest pups, definitely getting her share at lunchtime.

Padme is doing great. She may have started out a little behind the others, but is catching up fast. She is clever and outgoing. She may have a visual handicap, but if she does it does not slow her down. Padme has one blue eye and one eye that is half blue, half brown. She is the smallest of the remaining puppies.

The puppies are now 9 weeks old. They have been microchipped and have age-appropriate vaccinations, plus they’ve been dewormed at least weekly since two-weeks of age. These puppies will likely grow to be between 35-50 pounds. Both of their parents have sweet temperaments and have already found adopters. Visit TeamMemphis.org for an adoption application or reach out to me (fosterdogcottage@gmail.com) with questions or if you’d like to visit.
Blarney Stone is adoption pending (which means he has a committed adopter but has not been picked up yet). This week we received another Blarney! Cuddle Clones reached out with an offer to create one of my dogs. I chose Blarney because I knew he’d have a lot of fun with it (he has).

This is my first experience with Cuddle Clones. I like that they donate a portion of each sale to smaller rescues and animal causes, instead of the big animal welfare organizations. [Sidebar: If you want to help animals, choose local or smaller hands-on organizations because your dollars will mean much more and won’t go to pay six-plus-figure salaries that the big orgs pay their staff. I’ve always wondered what their motive is for fixing the problem if fixing the problem means they’ll lose those big salaries.]
I had to send pictures of Blarney from all angles for their designers. The details are amazing on ‘Blarney 2’. They got his off-kilter eyeliner and the freckles on his belly, plus his pink ears and the pattern of his brindle coloring. Here’s my video of Blarney 1 and 2:
Amelia Bedelia is doing great – maybe putting on an extra pound or two because of all the treats she gets when she joins Blarney’s training sessions (she’s an A student). We’ve been trying to take her out more because she enjoys meeting people and going places. I’m not sure what else I can do to show off this special girl. I guess it’s hard to stand out when you’re competing with puppies.
I really enjoy her company, but I know she deserves a better life than she has here. As fosters go, she is easy-peasy. So I don’t mind her sticking around, but every day she stays here she is missing out on her real family. I appreciate everyone who has shared her information and pictures and my posts, please keep sharing! We need to find a home for this precious pup.

If you or someone you know is looking to add a furry family member, please share the dogs and puppies in my foster cottage. I need help spreading the word! You can always find information about the dogs on this blog site (under the tab ‘foster dogs currently available for adoption’) and also on the Facebook page, Adoptable Dogs in Shenandoah County.
